  3. OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE OF THE SESSION

Pipelines and network systems are critical components of infrastructure that ensures the delivery of essential services such as water, gas, and fuel. Seismic events pose a significant risk to the functionality and structural integrity of these systems, often leading to service interruptions, economic losses, and safety hazards. Understanding the seismic performance of pipelines and network systems is crucial for minimizing these risks. This SS aims to explore the latest research, methodologies, and technologies in assessing the performance of pipelines and network systems under seismic loading. Topics will cover seismic load modeling, dynamic analysis, and performance-based evaluations to ensure pipelines can withstand seismic forces. Additionally, the session will focus on the interaction between pipelines and surrounding soils during seismic events, as well as innovative design and retrofitting strategies to enhance the seismic reliability of both existing and new pipeline networks. Contributions in this SS will offer insights into improving the resilience, safety, and operational continuity of these vital systems under seismic conditions. Topics for potential contributions include but are not limited to:

    • Seismic load modeling and its effects on pipeline and network performance.
    • Dynamic analysis and performance-based assessment of pipelines under seismic loading.
    • Discuss how the integration of geospatial data enhances decision-making processes for infrastructure management.
    • Interaction between soil and pipelines during seismic events and its influence on system performance.
    • Seismic design and retrofitting techniques to improve the performance and safety of network systems.
